Getting ready for baby

So we have just about a month left in our wait for our newest child. We have been eagerly anticipating her arrival and are counting the days! Honestly, I'm just looking forward to being able to get out of bed without cringing in pain!! This pregnancy has definetly had its challenges-but she will be worth it!!!

Here is a little video showing of the little area of our room that our McBaby will occupy. Nothing fancy as we are simple people living a very simple life but its her space nonetheless!!

I just want to thank the Lord for blessing us with a beautiful crib and mattress given to us by a dear lady in the church! What a blessing these precious people are.

Isn't God good?!! Counting my blessings this morning.

My Kitchen Helper

For a while now I have been burdened about spending more one-on-one time with my children. Having four children ,who are of close agedoes not make it easy to find time to spend alone with one of them. It is one of those things that is easy to think about but takes true effort to see it come to fruition.

Well, for me the "problem" has seen a solution! Each day for the past week one of the kids has helped me with the preparation of a meal. We have to eat and do so many times throughout the course of the week so it seemed embarrasingly obvious that this would bring about the time with each child that I had been desiring.

One day this week Brother helped me with breakfast. Here he is helping me to crack the eggs for our egg and cheese sandwich breakfast.

He did a terrific job and the backwards red Lightning McQueen hat just made him that much more handsome!!

This has been a great time for me because I have been able to have some great conversations with the  children while preparing meals. It's been wonderful to be able to have these moments and I plan to continue this as long as I am able!! Oh, and this counts as school-Home Ec. right?!! Don't you just love that?!!

My Garden Helper

Big Sis said to me one day, “Can I use this basket and help you pick some vegetables from the garden?” My bloggin’ mind immediately thought of the camera…and then of saying “Sure!!”
Enjoy the pictures!

A Late Thankful Thursday

I just found this idea and have been wanting to do something similar so I decided to link up to this one.

I think that we could all show our thanks to the Lord a little more and hopefully this will help me to be more deliberate at noticing the many undeserved blessings that He bestows upon my life.

This Thursday (really Friday but it stems from yesterday) I am thankful for faithfulness. I posted yesterday about our 10th wedding anniversary and as I pondered over the last 10 years of my life with McPapa one word kept coming to mind.

FAITHFUL

My husband is the most faithful man I have ever met and it has been so edifying watching his testimony.

This week I am thankful, Lord, for a faithful husband!! Thank you Lord for bringing us together!!!

Happy 10th Anniversary!!!

It was 10 years ago today that my hubby and I walked down the aisle and promised the Lord and each other that we would be true to one another. TEN years. WOW! That sounds like such a long time ago yet the years feel like they have flown by.

Hon, I love you! I am thankful that the Lord put us together, gave us the life that we have, has allowed us to go through what we have, has grown us like He has, Has blessed us like He has.

Happy 10th Anniversary!!

The Funny Things Kids Say…

DSCN2301 Big Sis is not the loudest in the family, not by any means. She is our more quiet child, always around but content to stay in the background.
What amazes me about her is her ability to think so quickly and so logically. Sometimes the things that come out of her mouth are surprising…McPapa and I look at each other in complete amazement that she is able to make certain connections. It’s shown me that not only is  she quiet, she is very bright.
Well I would like to share with you one funny connection that she made out of the blue recently. Nothing amazing or brilliant…I can’t remember any of those right now, it’s too late, but I’ll share this funny one.
We were all piled in our faithful blue minivan headed to Aldi to do some frugal shopping. We hadn’t traveled very far when McPapa laughs and says that something is just so hilarious. (Don’t remember what he was talking about either). larry_the_cucumber
Piping up from the seat behind McPop Big Sis immediately says, “Mommy is it hilarious because Larry (the Cucumber)  is so funny?” Get it? Hi-Larry-ous!
Bwa!!! We haven’t watched a Veggie movie in I don’t know how long but in our opinion for her to make the connection between the word and the character and to do it so quickly was pretty impressive.
Out of the mouth of Babes. What funny things have your children said lately? Share them with me!

The first fruits of our garden

Although it’s taken us quite a few years to plant a garden we have been quickly seeing the fruit of our labor! We are newbies at best so it has been so exciting for us to see these little veggies grow from tiny to ripe in a matter of weeks.
Just this week I was able to cook our very first homegrown garden vegetable. It was a lovely zucchini squash – whose plant has overtaken the garden by the way – that we excitedly brought inside to wash, sliceDSCN2143 and fry for supper.
It was so satisfying to know exactly where that little guy came from and what kind of chemicals – or lack thereof that he’s been exposed to.
Now he was so big that I was able to cut him in half and serve him the next night sautéed with onions and sausage for a mighty tasty meal that we all loved!DSCN2146
Here is a jalapeño that is so ready to be put into a salsa!!! Ole!  I can’t wait for our tomatoes and onions to hurry up and grow!!
Now you will see some weeds in these pictures because we had neglected our garden while Mr. Mac was in Cuba but last night we got out there (after these pictures were taken of course) and cleaned that place up. It’s a beautiful gardenDSCN2144 now!!
We also have some corn that we cannot wait for!! Just check out these babies!!! Ignore the weeds, ignore the weeds!! They’re gone now remember?!
What else did we plant?! Hmm…we have some greens that Mr. Mac planted, beans, sweet taters, onions, green peppers and cucumbers!! Oh my, can’t wait for the cucumbers!!! We also had two heads of leDSCN2148ttuce but I accidently pulled one of them up!!! And there is a stray strawberry plant that was planted just to see if it would grow…the squash has that pretty covered up right now but it is growing. We have decided however that next year the squash will get a place all of it’s own! That thing is monstrous!! I don’t have a picture but you can see some of it behind Brother in the photo at the top.
And no, the cucumbers are not sitting in a bed of weeds. That is our grass. It’s neighbor, the overgrown squash, has taken up so much room that this little thing has had to stretch it’s vines out of the garden plot completely to get some sun! Bad squashy!!!

Zoo Trip

Since Mc. Daddy is out of the country right now Mom flew out to spend a few days with us so that we wouldn't get too lonely!! The kiddos have truly enjoyed her company!!! One of the things that we did was take a trip up to the NC Zoo in Ashboro. It was a blast...although quite a lot of walking!! Here is a slide show of what we did there.

We also stayed the night at a hotel there and I'm kinda wondering if the kids enjoyed that more than the zoo...there was air conditioning in the hotel ya know! They had a blast swimming in the pool, wonderful beds, and a great continental breakfast!! That was one trip that they won't soon forget!!!

Thanks Mom for all of the great memories! You're the best!!
